Memory Garden [Proposal]

The series I’m working on is Ways To Resist The Flattening, or Entering All Possibilities. This project focuses on how to cultivate and document the accidental “Seams” - glitches or errors that were not intended as output of an encounter - interpersonally or with machines, and turn them into Memory Objects. I am creating a digital space to hold discarded objects, scribbled notes, things of seeming unimportance, and distilling them against the passage of time in Avatar Lilith’s Memory Garden, that grows algorithmically over time. The Memory Objects will be 3D scanned - an amalgamation of my personal notes, doodles from lovers, collaborative drawings, pieces of clay molded by friends during our coworking hours, and as a garden grows over time, so will the mesh (3D “clay”) decay and intertwine between the objects over time. This is an opportunity to allow others to engage with this piece and add their own Memory Objects and revisit them later. Much like a garden needs watering, this digital space will allow the audience to cultivate their Memory Objects and see how they intertwine with the others who have left their mark in the Garden. I am seeking to create a space that is not a social media platform infested by algorithmic flattening but rather a place that can help us slow down, build curiosity, and encourage playfulness to let our inner artist be curious about seemingly unimportant momentary fragments that I believe are actually the most important portals (Seams) that allow us to connect to creative entropic flow and play. For the 30 day residency I will create my Memory Garden using Unreal Engine and 3D Modeling Software - Blender, Zbrush, 3D Scans. I will additionally create a soundscape that captures sounds that are directly related to the objects recorded in that moment.
