Memory Garden [Proposal]

The series I’m working on is Ways to Resist the Flattening or Entering All Possibilities. This project focuses on how to cultivate and document the accidental “Seams”—glitches or errors that were not intended as the output of an encounter, whether interpersonal or with machines—and turn them into Memory Objects. I am creating a digital space to hold discarded objects, scribbled notes, things of seeming unimportance, and distill them against the passage of time in Avatar Lilith’s Memory Garden, which grows algorithmically over time. The Memory Objects will be 3D scanned—an amalgamation of my personal notes, doodles from lovers, collaborative drawings, pieces of clay molded by friends during our coworking hours. As a garden grows over time, so will the mesh (3D “clay”) decay and intertwine between the objects. This is an opportunity to allow others to engage with this piece, add their own Memory Objects, and revisit them later. Much like a garden needs watering, this digital space will allow the audience to cultivate their Memory Objects and see how they intertwine with the others who have left their mark in the Garden. I am seeking to create a space that is not a social media platform infested by algorithmic flattening, but rather a place that can help us slow down, build curiosity, and encourage playfulness—letting our inner artist explore seemingly unimportant, momentary fragments, which I believe are actually the most important portals (Seams) that allow us to connect to creative entropic flow and play. I will create my Memory Garden using Unreal Engine and 3D modeling software—Blender, ZBrush, and 3D scans. I will additionally create a soundscape that captures sounds directly related to the objects recorded in each moment.
