Elegy for a Simulacrum
Audio, variable lengthThis ambisonic composition was originally commissioned for artist Ava Kling's PUP-PET, a new media project exploring the death of a beloved dog and its transformation into a robotic companion. The soundscape materializes transnatural qualities through a hybrid sonic language of synthetic and acoustic materials. A synthesizer built from processed cricket recordings, metallic violin textures, rural field recordings from the commissioning artist's childhood landscape, sung vocal phrases, and layered string performances converge into a shifting environment that oscillates between the familiar and the uncanny.
